Windows 7: Cannot boot to Windows 7 installation disk

Hey all,

My computer has been unable to boot to the Windows 7 installer for the past two days.



My boot order is correct
I have confirmed that the drive works (It runs a live CD of Ubuntu just fine).
I have checked that the disk works (it boots fine in another machine).
I have used this same disk on this computer before several times before with successful outcomes.
My diagnostics come back successful as well.

I'm on a Dell Studio 1735 (from 2008).

I'm really at a lost as to why it's not booting to the DVD. I'm currently typing this from my Ubuntu partition; I don't have convenient access to a Windows machine at this point so any advice that caters to my situation would be appreciated.

Did you try the system repair ?:

Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

You can try accessing System Recovery Options from F8 menu at boot. But you should be able to boot the Windows 7 DVD. Can you boot any other bootable CD's or DVD's in the machine?

Try resetting the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

In BIOS setup set DVD drive to boot first, then HD. If that fails, set HD to boot first, try triggering DVD at boot using F12 Boot Menu.

Try writing latest official ISO to flash stick to see if it will boot. Burn another DVD using MS Download tool to try that as well.

Hanna 1, I didn't try system repair. The disk wouldn't boot period so I didn't have the option.

gregrocker, you have succinctly described everything I tried before posting here. I changed the boot order to various configurations, reset the bios, tried(successfully) a linux live CD, and made sure that the Windows disk was working.

Ultimately I just caved and borrowed a family members computer so I could make a bootable USB. I have searched pretty extensively and no one seems to have had a problem that was quite like mine.
