Am I correct in saying that a Windows 7 license isn't located on the installation DVD?

In XP, it could be found on the installation CD by going to the "i386" folder - then opening the UNATTEND.txt file.

    Thank you for the help!

It is there only if slipstreamed in by the computer maker on a factory OEM installer, but hardly any makers are supplying clean-copy DVD installers any more in order to enforce the bloatware which makes up most of their profit margin. They allow you to make or order Recovery Disks with the bloatware which has the key coded in.

For any retail and most OEM clean-copy installers however, you need to use the Product key on COA in package or stickered to machine. The key determines the version installed or upgrade/full retail, not the installers which are all the same with some versions hidden by ei.cfg file.
