    window 7 install problem

I am trying to load a new copy of home premium windows 7. A new partition has been formed from the whole disk and formatted The program starts to download the windows 32 files then on reboot it stalls and reverts to a load in safe mode/command prompt etc a blue screen flashes on for one second unable to pause it and read.

The PC has had window 7 on before but it crashed and corrupted hence the rebuild so it is windows 7 ready.

I have run all the hardware diagnostics ok they came with the Compaq PC

I have tried to install on to a brand new out of the box hard drive same problem.

I have successfully installed window xp on the original disk this has loaded ok

This disk was used ok to install windows 7 originally

I am beginning to think the disk is faulty but it does download a lot of files could it be corrupt, howcould this be

CD/DVDs are not as tough as you might think. Sometimes just a little scratch or even a fingerprint can create an read error. Bad RAM can also cause data errors and a failed install. Since XP installed OK I'm leaning to-wards damaged install media.

Use these steps to download and burn to dVD or write to flash stick the latest installer ISO then Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

I would try deleting all partitions during install as shown in tutorial after backing up your files. If install still fails wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command.

Thanks for your quick replies. When I ran the hardware diagnostics I did notice an issue with the graphics card and a predictive warning on the hard drive so it could be a hardware problem although xp did install ok is window seven more picky on the state of the hardware.

As to the hard drive I did try to install on to a brand new 60 GB drive and the original hard drive had a new partition formatted so it looks like the hard drive is not the problem

As to the state of the media it is my stepsons equipment and the 32 bit version is in bad state scratches etc although I tried to load the 64 bit version and the same happened.

I do need to get a new version of windows 7 thanks for the advice on how to download from the internet

If you are going to download an ISO image from Digital River make sure you get the one that includes SP1. I'd also make it a Universal install disk by removing the ei.cfg file.

Thanks for all the suggestions,It looks like it is a hardware problem I removed the graphics card and plugged into the motherboard graphics chipset and it lnstalled ok as per the instructions.

I then reinstalled the graphic card and it blue screened on bootup and went into safe mode etc there was an error log.So what was happening was : with the faulty graphic card installed, windows downloaded the files correctly and on reboot due to the faulty graphic card went into safe mode thus preventing the install with the message "can't install from safe mode."

The fan on the graphic card was full of dust and very noisy so I guess it overheated.

As XP loaded ok it looks like windows 7 is more sensitive to the hardware condition

    Thanks again great forum

See if you can clean up the video card and reinstall it.

I don't think you'll find what you need at the hardware store but you can buy aftermarket video card heatsink fan combo's that might fit your card. If it's an older card I probably wouldn't bother, if its already damaged by overheating you'll just wast money that may be better spent on a newer card.
