Install Win 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (OEM)

    Hi all,

Getting ready to install new hard drive and Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.
Previous was Vista on a different hard drive.

Sales person at Fry's Electornics assured me PC would uspport Win 64
    (HP originally puchased 2007)

PC Currently goes to Blue Screen at boot.

Is there anything I need to do before I install new hard drive and Win 64-bit?

    thx
    w

Check on the HP Support Downloads webpage for your model if there is a newer BIOS update. Download and unzip the Win7 (or Vista if necessary) LAN driverto a flash stick or CD to install if needed to get online quickly after install to get Updates including newer drivers in optional Updates. Any drivers missing after all Updates are done can also be found on the HP webpage for your model or Serial Number.

Power down to install new HD alone. Check that it registers correctly in BIOS setup, set SATA controller for drive to AHCI, set DVD drive (if using DVD to install) first to boot, HD second.

Then boot DVD to follow these steps to Clean Install Windows 7.

I have no idea what your trying to say becasue of your lack of syntax use. I have a DVD, Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit OEM that I'm trying to get my computer to boot from. But it just won'd read the dvd first! I've tried assorted orders and it will insist on starting up vias the HD which has windows 7 on it, (but I want a clean Install).

The DVD I have was bought from Amazon,(not that 'cellar Amazon section' and I paid $100. for it! Ican't even give back! I've been tryin g to get the computer to boot from the DVD with this Disc for 5Hours, (tried every variation).

I know the DVD reader is fine becasue I can open the disc after I boot into the present OS and I can even see the "Setup.ex" but I think that a clean install won't occur if I use that option, right?

Any Idea's what I can try? I have already cleared the CMOS and updated the BIOS, (twice). I have an Asrock Z77 Extreme4 withan i7 2600k CPU and HD7850 GPU. Anty suggestions are appreciated but please try not to shorten your sentences too much.

I'm 'old school' and don't quite follow 'keyboard shorthand'. Thanks

What you are after my friend is boot priority, when you start your computer up, make sure the disc is in the cd drive and if a post screen comes up saying your system information, it should say somewhere on the screen "press (whichever key) for boot menu", press that key, then select your cd drive, this should boot the disc instead of windows, if no such menu comes up then you need to access the BIOS menu, as I don't know what system you have I cannot tell you what this key is, it usually is either delete or F2, after accessing the BIOS menu, find the boot priority and select your cd drive as the first boot device, save and exit the BIOS menu and your system will restart and boot the CD, after you've set up windows from the disc, you need to set the hard drive as the first boot device otherwise it'll try and boot from disc every time you start your PC up.

Will this Amazon disk boot any other PC?

Have you attempted to choose the boot device through a one-time menu accessible from an F key? Or through a change in the BIOS? Or both?

Did you update the BIOS only because you thought it might help this booting issue? Or for some other reason?

May I ask to whom you are referring in your post which landed in an old thread and is worded as though you are receiving help which we cannot see?

The key on most Asus' is F8 for the one-time BIOS boot menu. Reboot and begin tapping vigorously the F8 key to see if you get a menu to choose DVD from. At the same time try to read the first boot screen to see if it gives another key to press.

If that fails follow these steps: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

If none of this works you can indeed run Setup from the existing OS to overwrite C partition.

Simply put the disc in another pc, and after choosing to boot from the dvd player, if you get the phrase. " Press any key to boot from DVD " it should work fine, if you don`t it`s a bad disc.
