Dual-booting Windows 7 Ultimate and Linux Mint (or Debian)

Hello SevenForums, members and great administrators.

First, there is a lot forums and sections , so If posted in incorrect one please move it.

    Second,

I want to Dual-boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with Linux Mint (or maybe Debian). I know , with Ubuntu is very easy, but I hate it That is because, low driver support , bad name , bad look and much other.

    Questions :
    1. How to do it ?
    2. What I need ?
    3. Do I need empty DVD or Windows 7 Installation DVD (because I lost this one) ?

I'm currently using LMint in VM , but I need it on my current machine , Dual-boot with Win7. And I will delete Win8 for this.

    Answer when you can.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Trinity -

Be sure to make a Win7 System Repair Disk for rescue purposes if you dont' have the installer.

GRUB boot loader can corrupt Win7 beyond repair when on the same HD, so be sure to also save externally a Win7 backup image: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

The cleanest method to avoid GRUB corruption of Win7 is given here by our moderator: Dual boot Ubuntu-Win7

Just install Mint into a Virtual Machine. Both Virtualbox and VMware Player are free. That way you can run both Windows and any flavor of Linux you want along with older version of Windows at the same time. No need to restart to go to the other OS. Best thing since sliced bread.

Today, I bought 2 DVDs , and on first created Windows 7 Repair DVD (like Greg said). On second I burned bootable Linux Mint 13 (I will get one other Linux DVD from friend , maybe).

I want to install it, today , but some questions before install

    1. Because, I need to install GRUB , and that can broke my BOOTMGR , can I and HOW to fix it with System Repair DVD ?
    2. I have my 500GB HDD. And on it Windows 7 and will be Linux. Can I install it on my free (green, 90 GB) space and to dont format C: ? How to do it ?

If you must install Linus onto the same HD with Win7, then boot it's CD to install to the space you made.

Afterwards follow these steps to Dual boot Ubuntu-Win7 so that GRUB doesn't interfere with WIn7.
