Winsxs file already consumes half of my disk space...

I recently replaced a 60GB SSD because my winsxs file was using over 25GB and I was down to about 8GB of usable space. I went out and bought an 80GB SSD and after my install it was already half full before I put any application on it. The winsxs file is already at 11GB and I really do not want to get into the habit of re-installing my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit system every 6 months. I also run a 64GB Fedora system on a 60GB drive and I'm not even close to using half of it. Why is Windows 7 so demanding on disks? Is there anything I can do to trim that down as I feel it will be 20GB in a few weeks. I'd like to maybe run an OS on Virtualbox but it is not looking good. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look at some of those and see if it helps. It would be nice if Microsoft could run their systems as lean as RedHat. Seems there is always something with Windows.
