    Multiple Bootmgr

    Initial issues fixed see update
Alright so I guess I have a bit of an issue. I had Vista installed on a 300GB harddrive, but I got a new harddrive and moved Vista over to that. Unfortunately I never actually reformated the 300GB hard drive so the bootmgr stayed there but was unused. With the new Vista it started a new bootmgr and is now the default bootmgr. Then I installed Win7 and that started a new bootmgr. But the BIOS still selects the Vista bootmgr and so I just added Win7 to that one. Except now I want to delete the Vista Bootmgr and the 300GB unused bootmgr and use the Win7 bootmgr. The Vista bootmgr no longer works for Win7 (Vista cannot correctly find the Win7 partition because it is set to the G: partition, but the Win7 windows folder is in S:)

I know I can delete the bootmgrs on the inactive drives, except I don't want to because I have no way of booting to the Win7 bootmgr. (Default boots to Vista, which would be gone, and using the Win7 DVD to boot uses the 300GB worthless bootmgr) If I use the Win7 DVD to repair the startup would it create a new bootmgr in the place of the two I delete or would it find the Win7 bootmgr and use that?

I'll be working on this for about another hour but if nothing works I'm nuking all three bootmgrs and rebuilding the bootmgr.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Update: Alright I've managed to get all the bootmgrs exactly the same so that everything boots correctly, however I still want to make the computer use the bootmgr on the 55GB Win7 drive because it is a 10,000RPM Raptor.

all you need to do is put bootmgr on the Raptor, on the "active" partition which has Windows on it. Then in the system BIOS, select the Raptor as first boot device.

Use EasyBCD and/or VistaBootPro. They make all of this a snap.

    Also, consider these command-line utilities:

bcdboot.exe - used to create the bcd store on the system partition
bcdedit.exe - used to edit the bcd store
bootsect.exe - used to fix boot sector on hard disk

Well the raptor is the primary boot hard drive, except my motherboard doesn't see the two different partitions. It only sees it as an entire drive. However I have download EasyBCD, just haven't used it yet since I haven't had time.

The BIOS doesn't "see" partitions because it doesn't need to. It only loads the code in the boot sector of the first boot device and then the boot manager takes over from there.
