Excellent.
Some sticks are so bad that diskpart doesn't even recognize them.
Now let's go thru this sequence of diskpart commands:
DISKPART
SELECT DISK 1 (that one is the usb stick)
DETAIL DISK (that will show some present info about the stick)
CLEAN ALL (this is going to write zeroes to each and every byte of the stick)
the above operation can take a long time especially on the older, slower usb sticks. Just be patient and wait and wait for the normal diskpart prompt (DISKPART >) to reappear.
This is also resulting in any bad areas on the stick will be so marked. If you were to attempt to put win 7 on a stick with bad spots, then your win 7 install would fail. On a new stick, you could get away with a CLEAN without the ALL.
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY (this will create a nearly 8GB partition on the stick)
FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK (format the partition as ntfs)
ACTIVE (partition can be used as a bootable partition)
ASSIGN LETTER=G (the stick will be assigned to drive G)
EXIT (to exit diskpart)
EXIT (to exit the command shell)
The stick is now ready to have the contents of the ISO file put on the stick.
Let me know when you get this far.
Or if you have any questions.
For reasons which defy my understanding, I've also encountered that the format command can take a long time on usb sticks.
Once again just wait it out.
your answer came in as I was replying.
Did you carry out the rest of the diskpart commands?
If yes, then the stick should show up in windows explorer and in Disk Management.
