Installing Windows from an SD card on a netbook with Linux Mint

    Hi guys,

I recently purchased a netbook on ebay with Linux Mint pre-installed. I want to rid of Linux and install Windows 7 Ultimate, however the only device I have to date is a 2GB SD card as I've either lost or broken my USB's or external HDD's.. Is there a way to create a bootable SD card with a small downloadable copy of Windows and install it to the HDD? Then download a 'full' copy of Windows to install that and activate it with a key?

Otherwise I'm going to have to go out and get a USB stick. Or is there an easier way with mounting etc?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I speak under correction, but as far as I know the minimum size required for a Windows install from a USB stick is 4GB.

Thought as much. I've just purchased a 16GB USB stick, that should do the trick.

    Thanks.

Where did you get Win7? How do you plan to activate it?

4gb sticks are easily found on buy.com for $5 with free shipping.

Then write the official ISO to stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool

I have an activation key ready, I just want to install Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm asking if there's a way to do it via a home network shared network or something? Seeing as I don't have access to an external optical drive, external HDD or a USB stick over 4GB at the moment.

It's hardly worth the trouble when flash sticks are so cheap, but here you go: How to install Windows 7 from the network? - Super User
