New Installation on an extended partition

Is it possible to install windows XP, Vista, or Seven on an extended partition?

I have a partitioned up hard drive for my main boot OS (linux fedora 17) and i am trying to find a solution so i can play video games and every solution ive tried from Virtual Machines to Wine just dont work for me and i want to install a version of windows to play my video games and the only space i have free is at the end of one of my drives as an extended partition.

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map and listings:

    1. Type Disk Management in Start Search box.
    2. Open Disk Mgmt. window and maximize it.
    3. Type Snipping Tool in Start Search box.
    4. Open Snipping Tool, choose Rectangular Snip, draw a box around full map and all listings.
5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

Tell us what is on each partition.

You can install Win7 to a Logical partition if there is another primary to receive it's boot files. I dont' think I'd want them going on a Linux partition however. Better to add or convert a Primary.

In addition you must be concerned about GRUB corrupting Win7 beyond repair as it can if on the same HD. Dual boot Ubuntu-Win7

    Physical Disk one
    Partition one /boot
    Partition two /
    Partition three /opt
    extended partition
    partition 5 /tmp
    partition 6 /usr/local
    partition 7 /var/lib/mysql
    partition 8 /var/www
    partition 9 /var/log
    partition 10 swap
    partition 11 /var
    unpartition space

    hard drive 2
    partition 1 /home

    raid array
    partition 1 /homeStorage

That is my my drive configuration discounting flash drives, floppy drives, and optical drives.

The only free space is on my first hard drive as an extended partition

I have grub under control (im going to chainload to NT bootloader. I just do not know if i can install on an extended partition

Need to see your drive map and listings. Use the steps I gave you to post a Disk management screenshot, or if necessary boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD to take a camera snap and post it back.
