Hi all, I was actually doing my backup cause am moving from Win 7 Pro 32 bit to Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. It might sound silly, but do I need to format all the partitions while moving to 64 bit?
Got 2 partitions where one consists of my OS and the other one got loads of files and no programs. Would help greatly in saving time for the process if it could be so :).

No, you can leave your data partition as it is. When you install Ultimate x64, make sure you install it over the existing OS partition.
Backup up your user data files on the data partition just in case you make a mistake.
Perhaps you might post a screen capture image of your existing partitions, so we can verify these for you?

Ohh thx, dats nice. I am backing up things i've got in my C drive right now. Here's my volume partition information.
Still it would be wise enough to make a back up of all i guess.

Have you burn't recovery disks for your PC? I notice you have a recovery partition shown. Presumably your Windows 7 Professional is an OEM installation, and you are now installing a Retail Ultimate?

Hmm the Recovery partition is free. I made once when i moved from Vista which was the former OS of the lappy. How can the recovery disk help me??
Yup got retail ultimate 64 so as to be able to use editing software.

Since you're backing up your files externally and don't need the Recovery partition, I would delete all partitions during install, then create new ones as you wish, format and install to first install partition. Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
If you want to keep your data on a separate data partition as you have it now, the easiest method to link to it from Win7 is to rightclick each folder to add to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums.
To organize it best I would keep it sorted into the same User folder structure so it easily links from D to the library on C: Music, Documents, Pictures, Desktop, Downloads, etc.
Be sure to unplug the external during install, after confirming everything got copied over correctly.
