New 3TB HDD, can't get Windows 7 to install on it

Hello, I have a new 3TB HDD I am trying to install. When I boot from my Windows 7 disc to the part where you select the partition where you want to install the OS, I select the Primary partition and get the message "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Predefine an e.g. 100GB primary, active partition on the drive and install into that.

To expand, you need to make the other partitions under 2.2tb so that Windows can use it. Otherwise you will need to convert the drive to GPT and you can only make it bootable if you have a UEFI motherboard.

.... or make several partitions that are smaller than 2.2GB.

i deleted all partitions so all that was left was 2,867gb of unallocated space

Windows 7 installed to that, is that ok?

How big is the resulting Windows partition.

Create a partition that is less than 2.2tb

Windows cannot read hard drives over 2.2tb so you will either need to partition it so that both partitions are below 2.2 tb or you need to convert your hard drive to GPT as stated in my previous post.

ASRock > Z77 Pro4 has a UEFI BIOS, so update the BIOS firmware, enable UEFI in BIOS setup, boot the Win7 DVD as a UEFI device, delete all partitions to clear the MBR formatting, then install Win7 to a partition of the size you want.

One should always make at least an initial effort to install to UEFI as it's the next generation BIOS with graphical interface, somewhat faster boots, and other enhancements.
