Windows7-64bit Ultimate OEM method to instal

OK I have looked in detail at those instructions sent via a link to HP. Regretfully having pressed F10 I get the screen directing me to press Ctrl-S which then takes me to MBA Configuration Menu. There i
s no reference to Set Up Menu.
Now Could I access Boot Protocol and use arrows and find further options, or are these just sub-menus of he MBA configuration Menu. Another option (not so good as I cannot programme the SetUp menu for plug and play items or even instal a larger 'C' HDD nor yet erase that disc as described in the clean instal option from within the Clean All Discpart Command) I have another computer that runs XP home. I guess I could use that installation disc to erase 'C' HDD in the HP computer. But it seems to be a poor option, but I haven't the knowledge to do the job properly. Alternatively I could take it to a local shop and ask them to access the Setup menu.

I have never had any problem booting the Win7 installer using the HP ESC or F9 key. Reboot with disk in drive and tap the key repeatedly and vigorously. Choose DVD drive to boot.

If this fails then I would do is download and burn to CD using Windows Image Burner free Partition Wizard bootable CD, which will boot itself at restart. Then click on the HD # to highlight it, from Disk tab select Wipe Disk. How to Wipe Disk with partition manager? Partition Wizard Wipe Disk Help (use the quick method)

This in turn should force the Win7 installer to boot itself as well so you Clean Install Windows 7

Thankyou for your patience. I have worked through the MBA Configuration Menu under Boot Protocol, two alternatives are 'Remote Program Load and Bootstrap Protocol'. Little use for my purpose so I thankyou for the alternative methods you have suggested and I will make use of them in order to expedite matters. I will also try to contact the technical guys at HP and see if they have a suggestion for this setup.

I have same m board. the correct button for my unit is F10- there are 2 other options of F8 and F9 which open other menus. one of which you are seeing above. the option for all 3 can be turned off in the Bios- normally so that in a business enviroment users could not adjust the system. - so if F10 has been switched off in bios and then bios saved and closed how to reset? The only way I can see is to do a "hard" reset. - Some times there is a jumper on the motherboard to reset - But the other option is simply to remove the battery from the motherboard - and replace after a Min. ( may be a good idea to replace with new one) This should reset back to factory settings and allow you to press F10. you will need to go through the Bios afterwards - most items will be fine automatically - but mine does not switch hyperthreading on so you need to check.

Ps the f10 normally only works whilst you see the initial HP flash screen once beyond this windows has taken over.

Thankyou for your kind reply. You are right in your reply. I found this answer on the HP site and detailed almost exactly as you have posted. I hadn't thought of actually replacing the battery, although I have several and will so do. I have purchased a disc burner in order to gwt some of the drivers to hand and hope to commence im the not too distant future. I will post all the results and the steps I will have taken for all who have so kindly helped to benefit

Good to hear about your progress, Melrosian.

Why don't you try first booting the Win7 installer, choose Custom install, then use the Drive Options to delete all partitions and repartition as you want, or just delete all and click next to let the installer create and format one large install partition for you?

You may not need to wipe the HD with Diskpart which is more of a troubleshooting step.

Remember to back up everything you need from XP first, and boot the disk by settng it first to boot in BIOS setup or by tapping the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key at boot.
