But you only had "system reserved" (199MB) and C (many GB) ? Nothing else before starting installing linux?

Don't recover now! But post camshot how disk layout is now please
the disk layout it still as it was in the first picture i attached. there were 3 partitions BEFORE linux - a recovery partition (installed by HP), a system (199) and the C drive (all the rest of the space)

what about the top one - start LBA 63 end 2047?
So now you still have a 199MB a C-drive and the hp-recovery (LBA 63 end 2047)?

199MB partition is active...nice
Hp-recovery is so small.... almost impossible. Partition wizard doesn't even know the format (OTHER). Was it always so small? does HP-recovery start anyways (I don't thnik so, you refreshed the MBR). Anyway it doesn't matter at all to keep the partition.

How to check File System - magic partition manager, Partition Wizard Help
How to Explore Partition - help of partition manager - Partition Wizard.

Files on C and 199MB partition? file system is healthy? All fine.... if so reboot from harddisk

Can you label those 2 partitions? After that you still can't assign a drive letter? even not after applying and reboot?
Try in recovery environment

They are already labelled 'system' and 'c'.
rebooted, still no changes - exactly the same.

the error on boot attempt:

Windows failed to start .... recent hardware change etc etc

Windows Boot Manager:
status: 0xc0000225
the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
