windows 7 cannot boot - cannot run chkdsk or diskpart

Maybe this can help you (source Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk )

7. If you have not already, you will need to download and install the free MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition program.

8. Open MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, and click on the Partition Recovery Wizard link in the left pane. (see screenshot below)

9. Click on Next. (see screenshot below)

10. Select the Unallocted disk that use to be the dynamic disk, and click on Next. (see screenshot below)

11. Select (dot) Full Disk, and click on Next. (see screenshot below)

12. Select (dot) Quick Scan, and click on Next. (see screenshot below)

13. When it's finished, check all found partition boxes, and click on Finish. (see screenshot below)

14. At the bottom left corner of the left pane, click on the Apply button. (see screenshot below)

15. Click on Yes. (see screenshot below)

16. When it's finished, click on OK. (see screenshot below)

17. Close Partition Wizard Home Edition.

18. Restart the computer to have the deleted dynamic disk restored as a primary disk now with all of the data still on it.

now another problem ...

only one of the partitions has a label - none have letters, so i cannot run 'check file system' on any of them. after deleting the 4th partition, i attempted to resize the 3rd partition to take up the remaining space. this gave me an error telling me to use the file system check, but its greyed out.

ill get a photo up shortly. kind of thinking this is a lost cause

i tried the above, but after clicking finish, nothing else happened - no operations pending to apply.

the list of partitions after doing the partition recovery step did indicate that the first one was 'lost/deleted'.

hmm. the above was using 'quick scan'. im now using 'full scan' and it has so far found 3 'Boot' partitions, that are 'lost/deleted'. all 3.01mb ?

This is great!! disk is basic again and system reserved and system partition are back! The OTHER very small partition can be deleted. please try to do that. and apply that. Can you boot in win7 now?

yes. all that video does is point out where the option is. as i say, its greyed out.

not sure if you can see this, but heres what shows while running partition recovery:

its grey as its running but you might be able to make it out. what are the 3 at the bottom? should they be deleted?

Don't recover them!! They are located between start and end LBA of C-drive!! So fake recovery. Partition tries to recover anything he things "can be a partition".

But you only had "system reserved" (199MB) and C (many GB) ? Nothing else before starting installing linux?

Don't recover now! But post camshot how disk layout is now please

the disk layout it still as it was in the first picture i attached. there were 3 partitions BEFORE linux - a recovery partition (installed by HP), a system (199) and the C drive (all the rest of the space)

what about the top one - start LBA 63 end 2047?
