Right, Doc. I edited my post to reflect how to either Clean Reinstall or SysPrep to move the current installation. But either way he needs a qualifying XP or Vista retail copy on hand to use Windows 7 Upgrade version, on the honor system of course. | My System Specs

The HP a6200n came with Vista, but I didnt like it. I had XP Pro discs from my first build like 8 years ago (AMD 2100+ lol) and put that on a small harddrive and used XP on the HP a6200n till the hard drive I installed XP on died, thats when I got Win 7 Ultimate and bought the 500 GB harddrive to put in the HP a6200n. I did have to do a clean install with it, wasnt too hard with google.
So yeah, Im sure the XP Pro discs qualify me if the preinstalled Vista doesnt (which would make sense, since the new comp will be completely home built and not using any original components from the HP a6200n). | My System Specs

The retail XP qualifies.
Factory OEM does not qualify except on the same machine.
To repeat: you can SysPrep it and it will start up on the new hardware like a new install but with all of your customizations, requiring reactivation and possibly the Option Three workaround in Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version.
If you dont' like that result you can boot the Windows 7 installer to clean reinstall, it should see an OS to allow use of key during install. If not leave the Product Key blank and after install do the workaround to activate. | My System Specs | | Win 7 Ultimate from old computer onto new computer? problems? All times are GMT -5.
