Windows 7: How to install new Win 7 on Laptop

Not good news...the system would not boot with the iso disk. I could see the DVD drive blinking, but nothing but the blinking dash that I had before on the screen. So..I decided I would try the new Window 7 Professional disk. It booted up the computer to a Windows screen to select languages! After which I had a message with a choice to repair or install...I chose repair, but that went nowhere. I went back and chose install. Got the message that this version wasn't able to load. I assumed that this was because this version was 32 bit Win 7 and the one that had been on this computer was 64 bit. Does this sound like the end?
One other thing...I had to do a system restore on my desktop PC as I couldn't get onthe Internet! Removed the Fast Burner using the Add/Remove and did a restore to yesterday and that corrected the problem and allowed me access to the Internet again?

Does it say "upgrade" anywhere on the Pro disc or package?

what that sounds like is that you need to go thru the steps in Greg's tutorial on installing and be sure to pay attention to the part about "cleaning" the hard disk.

Be sure to ask questions about any part in his tutorial that you do not understand.

I don't see the words upgrade, but it does state that it's licensed for desktop OS and must be preinstalled on the fully assembled system using the OEM PreinstallationKit (OPK).

Karl...Step #3 includes backing up files, etc,. For unbootable Windows copy data out externally usingfree Paragon rescue disk or Copy & Paste in Windows recovery Console. These instructions seem to indicate access to the hard drive? Not sure what my next step should be?

Karl just noticed your comment about using your recommended link? I Googled "imgburn" and downloaded the program. It was called Free Easy CD/DVD Burner. Thought this was the site you recommended? The burner worked and it was easy.

Hi Ken -

ImgBurn always works if the Windows 7 Download tool doesn't. Burn a new DVD at 4x speed with the Home Premium ISO.

Then make sure your DVD drive is set first to boot in BIOS setup under BIOS Boot Order, or tap the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first screen to trigger the DVD drive.

Do you get a prompt to "Press Any Key to boot Disk?"

Since you have no data that you want to save, you can ignore this.

Since you went to that site rather than the site recommended, then download IMGBURN from the link provided.

Uninstall the non-recommended program.

Run a virus scan over the computer.

Now install the correct IMGBURN and use it at a 4x speed setting with verify.
