    BOOTMGR is Missing

I have looked everywhere online for a solution to this problem and can not figure out to fix it. Please read the entire post before replying, because everytime I see my problem posted on other sites, people give answers that if they had read the whole post, they would know is impossible.

    Here we go.

I recently built a new computer. I decided to use my old hard drive that was running Windows XP, since it was a good drive, but I was going to format it, and put Windows 7 on instead.

    Step 1- I built computer
Step 2 - I completely formatted the drive via "format c:" in command prompt. At this point, there is no OS, or anything on the disk.
Step 3 - Set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD
Step 4 - Insert Windows 7 disc into drive
    Step 5 - Restart computer

Now this is where I have my issues. In BIOS I have it set to boot from CD/DVD first, and do not have boot to hard drive selected at all.

The computer will load, flash the mobo's splash screen, then I get "Booting from CD/DVD: _"

After a few seconds there it tells me "BOOTMGR is missing, Press ctlr+alt+del to restart"

I restart, and no matter what I do, I have the same error.

Now please, do not tell me to put in the windows 7 disc, boot to it, select keyboard reason etc... I can not get to any windows screen, or get the CD to boot, period.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue?

    Hi and welcome,

What is he source of your Windows 7 installation DVD?

Step 2 - I completely formatted the drive via "format c:" in command prompt. At this point, there is no OS, or anything on the disk.
I'm a bit confused about Step 2 - how did you format the C: when you didn't have an installed OS? Once we can get you to boot to an installation DVD properly, we can show you how to use DISKPART and the CLEAN command to do that properly.

    Regards,

I lost my original disc, so I got an ISO file of it, then burned to DVD.

OK, that sounds like a bad ISO download/DVD burn then. Download the ISO from this site, and burn it again at 4x speed:

Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

Another alternative is to burn the ISO to a bootable USB, and install it from that:

    Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

Do you get the message "Press any key to boot from cd" ? if not then, as Golden says, it`s a bad disc. What program did you use to burn it ?

I'll give it a shot and see what I can do. I used ImgBurn to put it on the DVD. Is there one y'all would recommend?
