I realize it's not much, but that's almost a gig right there. Deleted temp stuff regularly and it drops, but it still will have user specific app data and the user hives for the registry, etc.

And if you've got 5 or so users then you're at 5 gigs. Just to reduce clone size/time, etc.

I just checked on my work system, and it is 3 GB in size, but 2.1 of that is my Outlook .ost file. That's just a copy of my Exchange account, and nothing that needs to be backed up. On my home systems with SSDs, I don't run Outlook or have exchange accounts, so I wouldn't have to worry about that. Anything important to me is already moved out to D, thanks to Libraries, which to me, replace the concept of moving profiles. To each is own, as we use our computers differently, though.

True enough. The addition of Libraries certainly increased flexibility.

One thing I've never nailed down, when whole user profiles are kept in another location (even back in the XP days), was the potential impact to System Restore functionality (considering the users' registry files and any other OS/app specific settings/configs are located in a partition that may or may not have SR protection enabled).

I ran into problems with permissioning on my installers in Downloads on D which were not solvable after great effort. In addition we got enough complaints about Win7 Imaging wanting to include the User folders partition in image that I've seen Shawn (who wrote the tutorial) pretty much default now to suggesting only link to libraries. I've been doing that for about six months myself and gotten no negative feedback, however who knows how many actually do it since I still suspect libraries are generally hated by most who don't grasp the concept.
