EFI bioses will change a boot order without input from the user. Depending on whether you have media in the DVD or not, different options will be offered. Same type of thing with a Flash drive. But as long as the media is present, it should maintain the order, and this would be for situations like installs.

My suggestion is to always use the Boot device menu to make sure what you are booting to.

Edit: If you want, there is a setting in the bios on the boot page that will set which type of system you want to boot. If you go with MBR, you can set it to boot Legacy only and you won't have to worry about any UEFI boots.

Yes, I went through my bios manual line by line and saw nothing regarding MBR or GPT format types.

Sorry for not posting that when I encountered it, but I had nothing set up yet and did not have alternative way to get online. I had printed up the guides you linked, so I thought I knew enough about it to try some different options.

In every case so far when there was not EFI Boot disk in BIOS Boot order selection, there was a setting nearby for Legacy Boot that also removes EFI boot to install.

In your case until it is learned how to remove EFI install you'll need to install and repair using EFI on a GPT formatted HD.
