Wondows 7x64 XPMode Vs Windows XP64

    Hello,
    New here.

I just installed Windows 7's XP mode and I see that in that mode, windows does not have the SysWOW64 folder which was the system 32 for normal normal win 32.

Now installing programs in the XPMode (in win 7) seem to be trouble free as compared to in win xp64 if the program was for a 32 bit system.

DOES ANY ONE THINK THAT THIS IS A GOOD IDEA FROM MICROSOFT? That is not providing a true WindowsXPMode_en_us_x64 to go with
    Windows6.1-KB958559-x64 that is offered?

How can one really test a true 64 bit program that worked on Windows XP 64 (in this this Virtual environment) with this not so true 64bit environment offer?

The xp mode is only 32bit version of XP, not 64 bit version.

The 64 bit refers to the windows 7 install of XP mode, not to the virtual xp.

Hello brisol and welcome to the Se7enforums!

The new Virtual PC and XP mode are limited to the 32bit programs and any custom install of the 32bit Windows on a virtual hard drive there for the time being. The XP mode itself is primarily geared to allow businesses to upgrade to 7 and still run all of their old XP programs on the virtual XP machine.

Presently the SUN Portable Virtual Box allows for the 64bit 7 RC on a virtual machine on a usb flash drive. SUN allows has their Vbox you run on the main drive itself. Other then trying out the 64bit XP apps in XP compatibility mode on the 64bit 7 you may just see the 64bit XP install onto a virtual machine there.

Microsoft is finally getting into the VM ware for desktop application as well as server. So you will still have to gice some time and allow for the 64bit Windows to become the main stream OS before they will progress far enough to the 64bit Windows as well as programs run on the VPC. By then you will likely be seeing a 7 mode!
    (let's see that would be for ? W8, W9, W10, or ?)

I find it a little ruff simply assigning sounds to Windows functions while WMP works! You figure that one out for the Portable 7 on usb install there?

You can try there but be prepared for any disappointments ahead of time! Even when some other 3rd party source has been working with VM wares for a long time it's still not any exact science quite yet for everything.

The only way to know is simply give it a try to see if they work for you there.
