    Welcome Sharanya!

What exactly do you mean by "assist option will not take backup"

I have upgraded from Home Basic to Premium, and may be able to help you if you provide more details.

As for other problems, if you have installed the Service Pack 1, you will have some trouble upgrading.

Home Basic is supposed to be upgradeable to Home Premium using a Windows Anytime Upgrade:

    Windows 7 Upgrade Paths

That would be the most painless way of doing it.

Use WIndows Backup imaging: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Save an image before running Anytime Upgrade so you have a path back to Basic in case you want to sell the netbook and/or use the Upgrade elsewhere. Since it's retail it can migrate.

After upgrade put the Basic image in a folder so it doesn't interfere, then save another Premium image to use in place of reinstalls.

If you'd like to get beyond the factory bloatware you can first Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Remember to uninstall SP1 (provided you have it installed) before you proceed. I had problem with that, as you may have noted in my thread Basic to Home Premium Upgrade: First failed, then succeeded.

But everything else work as it should.
