Unable to install McAfee Virus software due to Windows Update error

Hi, I'm having a major virus/malware issue as my McAfee firewall protection stopped working suddenly. Called McAfee to reinstall the virus software and they were unable to install it. They said that since my Windows Update feature is not working (there is a big red X and updates are not downloading and installing) the McAfee installation is failing. Asked me to fix this issue first and then try McAfee installation.

Not sure what to do, any adivse? thanks.

You say your Windows Update is not working, yes? Try this Windows Update - Reset then try reinstalling McAfee. And it might not hurt to do this SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Their is a overwhelming chance that McAfee is causing all your problems and will continue to cause problems. McAfee most likely caused your Windows Up Date problem not the other way around. If it was my computer I would remove McAffe completely. Install and update MSE and Windows Up Date again. Reboot and run from comd promt/admin sfc /scannow 3 time boot after each.

MSE is definitely the best AV program in my opinion.

The absolute worst AV is MucAfee, an infection only solved by uninstalling. Replace with MSE which is recommended by most everyone here.

As suggested run SFC to see what damage the crapware did.
