No data restore after upgrade - Windows 7 Pro

    Hi,

I upgraded windows 7 pro (ON MY BOSS'S COMPUTER!) but something went terribly wrong durring the installation because now all the programs which were installed before, user data and so on are on some temporrary folders on C:. I guess some step was avoided during the installation process so windows did not restored the old files and settings. Is there anyway to automatically restore these files ? (NO, I"M NOT INTERESTED IN SYSTEM RESTORE, I WANT TO RESTORE ON THE NEW INSTALLATION THE FILES I USED TO HAVE)

Thank you very much in advance for your help!
p.s.: i hope you don't want me to be fired :))

What OS were you upgrading from. Was it Vista and eligible for upgrading to Win7 Pro version? Windows 7 Upgrade Paths

If so then you should have chosen Upgrade and not Custom install which overwrites the old OS. Upgrade Install with Windows 7

If it's not supportable for in-place Upgrade, such as an ineligible Vista version or another Win7 version which is meant only for Anytime Upgrade or clean reinstall, then you needed to Clean Reinstall anyway. Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

You can roll back the OS from the windows.old folder on C using this method:

It was a in-place install (windows 7 pro)...

Do you have the windows.old folder on C with the previous install contained in it? If so it means it was a Custom install. An in-place Upgrade will not create that, or not that I've ever heard.

If not then what folders contain the programs and data to which you refer?

If no windows.old we can help you setup a perfect Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version which will be a superior install, anyway, since corruption is carried over from Vista that might have even caused this problem.

No, i don't have Windows.old, it was not a custom install, it was an upgrade. Files were in some temporary folders called (for eg.) $WINDOWS.~BT, $UPGRADE.~OS and so on...

Yet it started up to the new Win7 installation with no error message or offer to Roll Back?

Do you have the files all backed up and program installers and Product Keys for Office, Quickbooks, etc. available?

You can tell your boss you are getting assistance for the recognized top resource on the web for Clean Installing and Reinstalling Windows 7. We do not settle for less than perfect and have helped tens of thousands of users achieve this.

Do you want to keep this installation since there is no rollback option without windows.old?
