I did several install runs today testing the USB drives. The place you mention seems to me must involve the memory and processor, or I suppose the install files.
The hard drive has not yet been accessed, so I do not think it is that, the USB drive is working, as is your DVD drive, as has now been shown.
I don't think a video problem would stop it at that point.
I would certainly download and burn a DVD before I would buy one.
Do you have any other computers you could try your media and hard drive in?
Did you try the 32 bit version of Windows 7? You probably have the other DVD in the package.
