Running Win7 After Swapping HDD
Hi,
I've been having trouble getting Win7 to run on my computer. At first, I'd tried to install onto my HDD normally, via DVD. Upon booting the DVD, I get an Error Code 5, which won't let me boot the DVD to install. So, I've tried running the installer from Windows XP, then doing a clean fresh install that way. Anyways, that was a while ago, ver 7100 I believe, last time I tried.
This time, I tried the same thing, except with Win7 7600. Same thing, Error Code 5. So, I decided to see if Win7 would install on my buddies computer here, with a Celeron 1.3Ghz processor or something.
It installed no problem on his computer, and I installed Win7 completely on it, all the way past the password and name entry. It booted up on his computer to the desktop, where I shut it down, and put the HDD into my computer.
The problem is that if I boot Win7 normally, it hangs after the nifty little animated Windows logo. I see the HDD light blinking, the animation is all pretty on screen, then it freezes up.
I've tried booting into safe mode, and it locks up after the file classpnp.sys I think it is. Currently its sitting at the safe mode screen, as I've read that people have had to let it sit for 10 minutes or more, before it dumps them into safe mode.
The damnedest thing is that it locks up in the same place every time.
I've removed the TV Tuner, and DVD-RW drive, just to see if those had any sort of effect on the performance. They didn't. There isn't much more of anything to remove, as the computer is packed pretty tightly.
Anyways, in case my computer info isn't anywhere near this post (my first time here), my specs are as follows.
The computer is an MPC ClientPro All-In-One 17" model.
2.8Ghz Pentium 4 Processor
1GB Ram
80GB Barricuda 7200.7 HDD
It's just my luck that MPC went out of business this past December. They're going to be of no help whatsoever. I have updated my BIOS to the newest version I could find. Unfortunately thats still around 5 years old. I've also updated the firmware on the DVD drive, but that did nothing.
On a side note, I've tried installing vista, and that gives me the same Error Code 5, so I decided not to even waste my time with trying to install that.
Someone help me please, Windows XP makes me want to gouge my eyes out. Its time for something new, and I'm desperately hoping that doesn't involve buying a new computer.
Hopefully I've answered everything as clearly as possible. Any help is greatly appreciated.
On another side note, I've read hundreds of Google-searched pages, and nothing has helped me at all. I'm stuck here.
Edit:
From what I can tell, it also seems like its locking up right before the main GUI starts up, so it could possibly be a graphics problem. Let's hope not though, because that damn thing is so proprietary that there will be no upgrading.
Also, I seen the system specs at the bottom, but just for the hell of it, the GFX card is an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 (or 9200, same difference I think).
