Before i used the repair discs i put in my windows 7 cd and wasnt getting a startup repair, its not like i was looking for the startup repair in the recovery discs.

i marked C: as active and made a repair disc following the instructions on that page. Now the System Reserved partition isnt marked as active anymore. Heres new pic of Disk Management.

I dont think they are 2 seperate HDD's, unless laptops come built in with 2? idk. I havnt added any new harddrives into the laptop

Move the Active flag to the System Reserved partition and run 3 separate Startup Repairs.

Is it possible you can do this today or do we need to go three days on this simple repair?

i ran it, it said windows couldnt find any problem with the startup. the boot list has Earlier Version of Windows, Windows 7, Windows 7 x64.

The x64 is C: and i want to keep it, Windows 7 is on E: and i want to get rid of it, Earlier version of Windows was on the USB HDD. I already reformatted the USB HDD i guess i just need to remove the entry from EasyBCD right? Should i do the same thing with Windows 7 on E: ? Format it from My Computer and remove the entry from EasyBCD?

What an unnecessary mess. All you had to do is follow the simple steps I gave you in the beginning to start Win7 after the failed XP Dual boot and you would have had C up and running. Instead you install a new copy of Win7 which is just random recklessness.

Enter Disk Mgmt and Delete the Logical partition with the unnecessary Win7 install.

Then try marking the System Reserved partition Active. You may need to temporarily give it a driver letter: Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums. If that fails do it from the booted Win7 installer: Mark Partition Active

Now boot in and run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times no matter what it reports. Choose the Win7 on C judging by its size.

Did all that, ran startup repair 3 times, restarted, ran it again 3 times (continued for 3x each, didnt know if i was supposed to run them 1 right after another or if i was supposed to restart and run it again so i did both), each time it said it couldnt find a problem.

Deleted the new Windows 7 on E before i did all that, now the boot list only has Earlier Version of Windows, and Windows 7 x64. Im gonna go see what happens when i click earlier version, im pretty sure it points to nothing i think its there just because. If it points to nothing can i just remove it from EasyBCD?

Clicked earlier version of windows, said hal.dll was missing from windows root. the usb hdd i had installed xp to i formatted so thats gotta be the reason why. Im gonna delete the entry from EasyBCD.

You still have unbootable Win7? Why won't you focus on that?

You'll need the Win8 ISO burned to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed, boot DVD to install to empty space where you deleted F. Create a partition there during install: Dual Boot Installation - Windows 8 and Windows 7 or Vista - Windows 8 Forums

my windows 7 isnt unbootable im using it now. have been using it ever since i installed 7 on that E drive, it fixed the mbr.

idk if ill be able to use a 32 bit version, i checked acer.com for my drivers and they all say 64 bit, if i install windows 8 will it find 32 bit drivers for me? my laptop is Acer Aspire 7551-7422, if that helps, and i havnt added any new hardware to it since i got it
