How to save the desktop icon settigs to guarantee they stay unchanged?

I have had many instances of having unwanted changes in my desktop icon configuration. I have tried a few things and still get them disarranged without me asking them to change.

Is there any known way that would ASSURE and GUARANTEE me they will never be re-arranged without me asking them to be changed.

I have checked the Tutorials index looking for information, and could not find anything.

By the way, thank you Brink and all other contributors for the massive task of having written and posted the library of Tutorials.

    Thank you kindly

I'm sure you have neither of these checked?

    To Bare Foot Kid

I have checked the Align Icon to grid.... and unchecked the Auto Arrange icons line
And with those settings today they got auto-arranged against my will. They all got compressed against the left of the screen and they are totally disorganized now.

Uncheck both to see if that sorts it.

If you want them to hold their current position, then rightclick on blank area of the Desktop to Refresh. They should stay put then.
