Why was windows using that boot from the HDDs and not making one on the SSD?
If it was doing that - then it is because the system active partition already on the HDD was seen by 7 installer , before the ssd's.

[Windows will always install the boot files on the first Active partition the installer comes across. The rest of the o/s installs on the partition you pointed at.]

well i did notice that both the SSD and the HDD said "Primary" on them when i reinstalled windows.
And when i had windows extend the partition on the HDD, it said something about making it something and warning that an OS will not be bootable from that drive no longer.. (read real fast, while dealing w/ my 3 month old, he was mad too :P)

Only a Primary can be active - but it can also be inactive.

Have a look ( when the baby gives you the chance, lol ) in Disk Management and see if you have any logical drives listed there.
