MultiPerditioned Win7Iimage : Should HDD be partitioned before restore

Hi,

I got this new laptop last week and after partitioning the HDD and installing the Windows 64Bit and installing all the required programs I noticed that there is a vertical line on the display (faulty LCD panel) and now I have to return this laptop and get another new laptop as replacement.

I had created 4 partitions of the it’s HDD and installed the windows 7 on the C drive and Additional programs on D drive. E and F drives are for work related files and storage.

I have created a System-Image and a Windows Repair Dsk using windows Backup and Restore utility, so that I don’t have to through the tedious process of installing OS, Drivers and all those programs again manually.

It created an image from C and D drive (as D drive contains program files as well). Now my question is when I get the new replacement laptop with a fresh un-partitioned HDD, should I partition the HDD before restoring the system image using Windows7 Repair Disk? Or would it created the partitions automatically?

I have never faced a similar issue before and would greatly appreciate your suggestions.

It should prompt you to delete the partitions during reimaging, or if using Win7 imaging it may want to delete all partitions to restore.

Otherwise I always delete the partitions in advance which are being reimaged since most imaging apps want unallocated space.

Does it mean that if the imaged it made the image from 2 partitions (both C and D drive have program files) it would automatically restore two partitions or will it combine C and D drive into one?

Replacement laptop is same brand, has same motherboard type, same GPU etc?

Yes exactly the same laptop (all hardware is same).
