No bootable OS, status: 0xc000000f

So, this is my Mothers laptop and she wanted Windows XP, so I went ahead and tried to dual boot it along side Windows 7. I shrinked the volume and did all those steps of one of the topics here, anyway I noticed the laptop kept constantly booting to Windows XP automatically? It's frustrating especially since it refuses to connect to the internet at all.

I right clicked on "My Computer" in the Start Menu and selected "Manage" I tried to make the "C:/" drive the active partition, and I rebooted. I ended up with that error message 0xc000000f. So I reinstalled Windows XP and tried again.

I managed to get VistaBoot or whatever on it and attempted to make it bootable to either OS, however, I ended up with an error message again... (0xc000000f), so I attempted to format the laptop using it's recovery drive (D) in System Recovery...I can't format the laptop....

I can install Windows XP again but I am sick and tired of it, I just want to fix Windows 7 now and make it bootable.

So now I am using a uBuntu "Try me" disc to write this message. Is there anywhere I can fix this via uBuntu? (I just want it to boot into Windows 7, I couldn't care less about Windows XP anymore)

Sorry, this is a pretty lousy introduction but I really have to go soon and I need the laptop fixed very soon!! Thank you.

If you have a Windows 7 Recovery CD or Install DVD, you could boot to it, select Repair my computer on the second page and do a startup repair 3 or maybe 4 times in this case.

If you do not have an Install DVD, you can download it from:

Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River My Digital Life

Your changing the active partition may be a problem, but the partition with the bootmgr should be active, and in Ubuntu it would show a boot flag. You can run G-Parted from Ubuntu to look at the drive.

Mark Win7 Partition Active then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times to start Windows 7.

Install EasyBCD to add XP: EasyBCD (free Download at bottom of page - no name or email required)

If XP won't start you may need to reinstall it or run an XP Repair Install first to get it running. If it installed and started up before then you don't need the SATA drivers slipstreamed into the XP CD, but you'll need to find the XP driver for the exact ethernet or wireless device you have onboard. Start with the Support Downloads webpage for the PC or network device model.
