New Ssd and windows 7. Won't read disk!?

    Hi everyone

I'm a bit of a novice but I decided to upgrade my computer and would love some advice please. I am currently running windows Vista 32 with an Hd and decided to upgrade to a SSD with windows 7 professional 64GB using a clean install.

I have watched a few videos which suggest you just plug in your new Ssd, unplug the HD and boot windows from cd/DVD and install onto SSD. I tried this several times and every time it did not recognize the boot disk. If I plug my original HD in and reboot using the disk- it is able to recognize it and initiates the installation procedure. I am hoping to replace this HD so not sure how to get this to work.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Can you clarify that the DVD boots up and attempts the installation? What make of SSD is it?

Did you buy the disc ? Is it retail ? Where did you get it ?

Plug in the SSD, boot up and tap the key given on first screen to enter BIOS setup. Is the SSD recognized? Near it check the SATA controller setting - try AHCI first to try install, then IDE if necessary.

When you set DVD drive to boot first in BIOS, or trigger DVD using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key at boot, does it prompt you to "Press any key to boot disk?" Then what happens.

When we have all three of our posts answered we'll be able to help you better.

I am having this same exact issue but with XP!
I can not find anything relevant anywhere else, and my google skills are kind of sharp.

I'm installing on a thinkpad laptop
Its not working with bootable usb or usb external drive. What is up!?
