How Do I Reformat A Sony Vaio Laptop Without Disc?

I have a Sony Vaio model VFN-FW518F...

I would like to reformat and start over. However, much like all of the new laptops, it did not come with a disc. I never created a recovery disc at the beginning and a Sony Technician is telling me that my registry and many core components are corrupted and need to be fixed before I can create a recovery disc that will work. Of course, this would cost me money just to get those fixed.

I would have to believe there is a way to reformat my computer without having to deal with paying a service guy money to create a "clean" recovery disc. Any thoughts?

I assume you've already tried these two procedures:

System Restore

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If you already have and weren't successful there's another way. As long as you can read your COA key and can burn a DVD you can follow this:

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I've tried the first two, so I'll do this procedure tonight and let you know. Thank you for the insight.
