Unable to upgrade windows 7, starting services auto-restart

    Hello,

My computer was unable to upgrade to windows 7. I am using a compaq presario notebook PC. The boot device ( CD ) does not work, the system recovery does not work and there is no "repair my computer" on the F8 option. I tried safe mode and it does the same thing as start windows normally. It will say Setup is starting services and after 10 seconds it will auto restart.

Also, is there a way to load the windows.old files?

You can install Windows 7 from a flash drive if your computer supports it. If not, why not replace the optical drive so you have one that works?

If you do not have a Windows 7 installation DVD, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River.
Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

You can now use the downloaded .iso file to create a bootable flash drive using Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3.

Simply start it, select Windows 7 from the drop down menu, point to the downloaded .iso and your flash drive, and your off.

    Hello,

I've made my USB into the Windows 7 CD. But, the computer have been on the same message on hours :

For the Linux Distribution, I selected Windows 7 Installer

Also, is there any way to change the CD USB back to normal USB?

CD USB is for a removable CD drive. The USB stick should show up to boot under USB, Removable or HD's in the BIOS setup boot order, or using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

Where did you get Win7? How is it activated?

I got the Win7 from the torrent sites... It has x86 and x64 included

I also tried the one you gave on the site... it is still stuck on the screen...

How are you activating Win7 Ultimate?

If you don't have a legal copy then I'd reinstall the OS which came with the Compaq which you own for the life of the machine. Do you have the installer for that?

Reset the BIOS to defaults. Set SATA controller to AHCI to try install, then IDE mode. Check for USB settings while in BIOS setup.

    Hello,

I've reseted my BIOS to defaults. But, I cannot set the SATA controller to AHCI in BIOS, there is no option there.

That photograph showing the frozen SYSLINUX prompt is typical of an incomplete write of the Windows 7 ISO to the USB stick. If you decide to reinstall from USB again, then I recommend formatting the USB to FAT32 prior to writing the ISO to it.
