How do i use recovery disc?

Im not sure what part of the forum section this belongs to so pleas efeel free to move it.

So my laptop has been acting strange recently and i cant seem to open or delete some folders , it tells me im not the proper owner. There is only 1 owner and 1 account on my latop and thats me , full admin.

This problem started after fiddleing around with Media Center and sharing with my xbox. I couldnt resolve the problem so i have decided to use my recovery disc.

I built the disc back when i recieved the laptop . The problem here is i dont know what exactly the process is to reinstall everything.
Do i just insert the disc 1 by 1 and run them?

or is there a proper way of doing it? Any help will be much appreciated. thank you in advance.

Hello Technetic,

If you mean for OEM factory recovery discs, then it really depends on what brand and model your laptop is. If you could post back with what brand you have, I'll be happy to see if I may be able to find detailed instructions for this for you.

Typically, you would boot from the 1st recovery disc to start the factory restore of Windows 7 though.

theyre just the disc that i made personally from the HP recovery center. An HP rep told me to make the disc and said if i ever had a problem i could use the disc to revert back to the time when i made them.

I have an HP DM4-3090SE

Here is the HP Support document at the link below for how to do so using recovery discs. Be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose first though.

Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

I hope this helps,

I would try running Recovery from it's partition from within Windows or at boot first which is a more stable method and will then have a backup with the disks. If the disks fail there is no backup except to order another set.

You can also consider losing the HP crapware and useless duplicate utilties by doing a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.
