    Bloatware...what is it?

    Hello,

I planned a fresh clean install of Win 7 Pro 64 bits in my Tecra R840 after receiving the new Plextor M5Pro ssd! Since, after the BSOD last week, I have no apps (office, photoshop, etc..that I had before) in it, I'm doing experiments (untill I will receive the ne ssd).
I work in a institution where I've access to a original copy of Win 7 Pro 64 bit for installation in my personal computer! So I tried it...! After the installation my laptop was "unrecognizable"! I mean the screen was low res, etc! So I needed to install all the drivers one by one (that I have in my portable hdd, after download one by one...from the toshiba support site), etc! And I needed to download SP1 update too! Ok, all this to say that it is not an easy task (for me). Of course I could go to a "pc clinic" and they will do the job ($$).
So, afterall it seems that will go the easy way: since I have the recovery discs for my laptop (I made the 5 dvds when I bought the laptop) why not:
    1- install the ssd,
2- update the firmware and then
3- make an "factory clean" install of everything?

I already experiment this 3 hours ago, after the aformentioned fresh install of win 7! And everything went just fine and at this momente I have my laptop with everything installed like 6 months ago when I bought it!

So...about the bloatware! What is it (I'm from portugal..!) ?
It is true that the rescue disks installed a lot of stuff that I did not want (macafee, bbc something, etc...) and lots of apps from toshiba too!

Could anyone, please, tell me what should I keep and what can I remove without hurting my laptop! For example, the toshiba fingerprint utilty is a nice utilty for logging in in the web...but maybe I will not use it! So, maybe I will remove it! Tempro...it seems a waste of time!

My big problem ist that at this moment, even without any apps (besides the ones automatically installed by the recovery disks) I have lots of services running and lots of apps at the startup msconfig!

I will put a list here of all the services running and all the apps installed!

Thanks for reading and I will appreciate all the tips

Everything you need is here to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

The bloatware is sponsor's crapware that makers install to reduce their costs, and useless duplicate utilities that have better versions built into Win7 and may throttle it.

If you have software that came preinstalled on the PC that you need then check the model's SUpport Downloads webpage to see if it's available for reinstall. You may also have an Apps and Drivers disk that offers a menu to select just the software/drivers you want. But I would use more a recent version if it is on the Downloads page, especially for drivers.

If there is some software that forces you to run Factory Recovery instead of getting the superior Clean Reinstall then you can approximate it by following these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware

After reading over the tutorials feel free to ask back any questions.

    Thanks

Here the services I've running and the apps at startup!

What should be safe to disable, uninstall, etc?

    I'm using a bluetooth mouse and a 3G internal "module" !

It says clearly what to do with those msconfig tabs in Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

You only need your AV, gadgets/stickies if you use them, any Sync program you use. All others are freeloaders on your resources and spy on you.

    Thanks again
I just finished to uninstall some and it seems ok! But I like some too and maybe I will keep them1
Anyway I'm a little affraid to mess with this and start having issues..:-(
I do not use gadgets and stuff like that! Only MSessentialsas my AV! What will happen if I disable stuff like all those Intell stuff, Catalyst, AMD...?

    thanks,

You don't need any of those starting at boot except MSE, maybe webcam app if you want the extra controls running, SSD monitor for extra protection, Bluetooth for your mouse.

The 3G module (Ericson service?) may need to also run at boot if it isn't part of your wireless driver package. But you can turn off Toshiba Wireless bloatware in All Programs, under Preferences, to configure the wireless directly in Win7 through the System Tray wireless icon. There is no reason to have a duplicate Toshiba utility for this, or anything.

If you have anything not working as it should afterward post back immediately and we will help you sort it out.

I'd immediately uninstall Google notifier and all other google spyware in Control Panel. Then stay signed out of Google web apps that also spy on you.

I'd also strongly consider getting the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

    Hi,

just uninstalled some apps and unchecked almost thehalf from the startup at msconfig! Checked with sfc/verifyonly and it is Ok!
Result: shaved almost 30 secs at windows booting (checked with event viewer boot time)

Let see if everything remains like this!

    Cheers,
