    Computer Crash and Reinstallation

    Hey Guys,

I originally had a Windows XP computer which I upgraded to Windows 7. My computer crashed yesterday and I got stuck with a reboot error where it would load through the Windows XP screen but get stuck on "Setup is restarting............" blue screen and it just sits there. So I tried to just put Windows XP on the computer since I couldn't get anything to work. No Safe Mode, no Debugging nothing would work. Well I partially installed Windows XP on my D: drive and I am able to boot from the disk but C: drive says "System Reserved" and running from my D drive, all i have is a Recycling bin. I tried to setup a connection to the internet but it isn't recognizing anything ( since there is no connection wizard ). Point is I'm able to get into Windows, only it seems I have the files but nothing works. I just want to connect to the internet but I don't know how to do so. If there is a way to fix the ( Setup is restarting........ ) I would take that first obviously, but for plan B I just need internet access. IF anyone can help, that would be appreciative.

Why are you still messing with XP when trying to reinstall Win7?

Are you aware that you are to boot the installer to install an OS? How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

Boot the Win7 installer, select Custom install, then use the Drive Options to delete all partitions and create New as you wish, or just click Next to have the installer do it for you. Illustrated steps here: Clean Install Windows 7.

If this fails post back the exact error or problem and at which step it occurs.

Where did you get Win7? How is it being activated? Do you have a DVD drive?

There are different ways to handle drivers and be assured of getting a perfect install detailed here which apply even to your retail install.

I only have my Windows XP disk. I lost my Windows 7 disk from moves. So now I have to try from a Windows XP disk. By reinstalling though, wouldn't it whipe out all the files that are on the hard drive?

Do you have a legal Product Key for Win7 upgrade? Where did you get it? If so we can provide you with a bootable installer and the steps to get a perfect reinstall.

Do you want to keep XP on the PC? If not then your files should be backed up externally as they should already be anyway.
