Here is my layout of my hdd's. I have a usb in right now so ignore that. I renamed the SSD to "SSD" and it has all my drives and such on backup. The model was sold and advertised with a 32ggb ssd part, Something to do with an intel rapid boot or I don't know. Weird features to make it sound cool. Here are the specifications of my laptop IdeaPad Y480 14" Laptop | Shop | Lenovo | (US)

And another question to tack onto this is Windows 8 is giving me installation issues and I think it has something to do with this configuration. Anyone have any ideas? I've tried a desktop install and a usb install and the usb install says it can't find a driver, and a desktop install doesn't let me get past a reboot

sorry it took me ages to respond. Military life, haha.

Why are you messing with this pc ? It was built that way for a reason. :)

Why are you even attempting to ruin it with W8 ?

can you explain how the drives are set up? If something is going to conflict?

And I got windows 8 for 15 bucks. Pretty worth it I guess

And I'm getting lost in these guides on what exactly i'm going to be doing. Whole reason I originally made this post was to get a simple answer on what needs to be done so I do what i'm looking for. I'm not trying to spend a day in cmd. I think this is a lot easier than we are making it

According to your pic, the ssd is 24 GBs. Is that correct ?
If you install windows on it and do the updates, there will be practically no room left.

I don't see where you describe installation problems. Did you have another thread before you crashed this one? What are the exact problems you're having?

Is this disk config the way it came? Rapid Boot normally involves a 32gb SSD chip on mobo to act as paging file configured in a RAID. Was it already a partition as shown before you renamed it and what was it's name? I also see there's another paging file on C - was this from a reinstall you did to C? Maybe it requires moving paging file to the SSD partition since it is to provide that function.

Have you tried running an in-place Upgrade to Win8 which might be easiest? I would read the Manual on the SUpport Downloads webpage for your model to see how to reinstall. If it's under warranty you can contact Support to ask how to go about upgrading or Clean Installing Win8.

As i mentioned in my systems specifications I am told it is a "32" gb solid state drive portion of my hard drive. My primary is a 1tb.

As for installation issues I can't get windows eight on my system. Here are some images of the issues i'm having. And for a dekstop installation, after the reboot is where it doesn't want to work.

As for this one, I'm trying to do a USB installation and it gives me this message after i enter my serial and accept the user agreement and choose upgrade option

And I tried to see what would happen with a clean install and its showing my HDD 1tb is OEM reserved and I can't even do anything to that.

So remove the USB stick and reboot, then plug it in, open in Explorer and rightlcik Setup to run as Administrator, choose Upgrade install.

Ok, let me break this down very simply because you are making me jump everywhere.

    Desktop install

The installer window (in windows 7) takes over my computer and goes to 100%. The system reboots and runs into an error and can't install. Reverts to windows 7

    BOOT FROM USB

installer goes to "Install Now" menu, asks for my serial, offers the upgrade option and then goes to the image i showed above. *reminder, the system is booted from the usb, i'm not in windows explorer or even 7 itself. I remove the drive, reboot the computer, and it runs into the "desktop issue", where it tries to reboot in the Windows Eight installer and runs into an error, crashes, then reboots into windows 7.

With me now? Its a loop, Thats why i'm involving my drives because I tried doing some hunting on the issue and found one other person with the issue, and I haven't heard from them either.

It's a LENOVO by the way, not an HP

    yes, untouched from the manufacture

It was named something weird like lenovo or something so I renamed it, all it has on it are EXE files for drivers and applications
