Here is a tutorial by whs that can help you:
    SSD Alignment

I recently bought an SSD and transferred my HD C: (OS) partition to the SSD.
I used the Geeky method in this tutorial by whs.

There really isn't anything extra to do in a clean install.

Disconnect any other drives and install.

Alignment should be OK by default, but you can set it with diskpart if you want. If it's not aligned properly, it can be adjusted.

You should check alignment after the install, along with the size of your page file and space devoted to System Restore. You can turn off hibernation to save some space if you don't use hibernation.

I'd run a benchmark after the install to confirm it is working OK.

I recently did thus this -- migrated my Win7 install from HDD to SDD -- and did it by (1) backing off the HDD installation to external drive using Macrium Reflect, (2) booting using the MR CD, with the external drive and SSD then connected, (3) "restoring" the Win7 backup -- but to the SSD.

Works fine, have had no problems with it.

Got a score of 523 in ATTO. apparently not bad(for an OCZ agility 3), but really don't know as its my first SSD build, I wanted to try tech before i started using it in builds.

by the way, got hiber turned off, pagefile and user files on my 500GB.. indexing and a few others off too.. any other hints?

    Did you confirm proper alignment?

You can check how much space is devoted to System Restore.

You can also confirm if TRIM is enabled.

Open an administrator's command prompt and enter this command:

    fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify

If the response is DisableDeleteNotify = 1, then TRIM is disabled.

If the response is DisableDeleteNotify = 0, then TRIM is enabled.

To enable trim: fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0

To disable trim: fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 1

Other than that, I can't think of anything. For some cheap laughs, you can check your official reboot time with this script:

    ReBoot Time

Keep on the lookout for possible firmware updates. Use whatever tools OCZ may provide to optimize the drive. Intel has such a tool for their SSDs, but I don't know about OCZ.

For Windows 7, the installer does the aligning.
Apart from that, don't think about installing it, just do it and enjoy a wonderfully fast and responsive Windows :)
But be warned! You will then NEVER be able to go back to a slow Disk for your OS. It will all seem SO fricking slow in comparison.

Why do you need to turn off the modern features of Win7 to fit it and it's programs onto a 120gb SSD?

I would keep paging file onboard for maximum speed, turn on hiberfile to use that feature, then see how much space you have to spare after all programs are installed.

To avoid issues I'd also move User folders back to the SSD, copy each to the HD, then rightclick to link it to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums. Then you can delete the content of the User shell folder on C.
