Silly Question: Where can I SAFELY download windows...

My laptop has my Windows Keycode right on the bottom as it should... but I don't have the restore disc that came with (or didn't, can't remember)..so I assume (dangerous I know) I can just snag a vanilla Windows via torrent and burn a disc, right?

So where can I safely download it? Common sense tells me to be careful about the source of my OS... I know what an MD5 checksum is but don't know where to find the official checksum... does MS maintain that info?

Thanks in advance for any tips... I feel silly having to ask...

Thanks... I failed to mention that it's Vista that I am looking for... yes I know that this is a w7 centric forum but I figured that whatever answer I got would apply to Vista as well. I do know that the same folks have a Vista forum, so I guess I'll root around there for a similar tutorial...

    Thanks!

Ok, I found a similar Vista tutorial but it doesn't have any download info:

Clean Install with a Full Version of Vista - Vista Forums

Bummer... guess I'll have to post over there.

    Thanks,

You have to compile the ISO which takes following the steps closely but it's all we've got that isn't a torrent: Vista ISO download

(Looks like it the same link as AddRAM posted)

    Related to re-installing Windows 7, I had a question that wasn't answered:

how do we know that MyDigitalLife download files are malware-free?

Is that an official Microsoft source of Win 7 ISO's ?

    Thanks

Yes, that is the official Win7 installer ISO. There are no worries about malware.
