    Installing Windows 7

I want to put Win 7 on a pc I am now using Win XP. Can I install a OEM copy on the pc after reformating the drive and activate the software?

It must be the Win 7 activation key, not the XP key that was used before.

If the OEM version is an Over the counter type, system builder type, and you have a License key for it yes you can.

If the OEM version you have is a Branded version from makers like Dell or HP then no you can't even if you have a License key for it. Those types of OEM version are for reinstalling the OS on a computer made by that maker and that came with that version of Windows preinstalled.
