Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Win 7 or Vista
Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Win 7 or Vista - How-To Geek

I'm using this on folders I saved to USB stick before my computer died, after I copy them back. There's only a handful of folders with a bunch of sub-folders to Take Ownership of. I guess I have to own the folders before I can install the programs within them. Most of the programs are ones I've already downloaded from the internet previously.

The problems start when Win 7 starts making desktop icons lose their color and revoking permissions to run those programs when they were working fine an hour before. There is a bug in Win 7 (Windows Updates?) causing this and a lot of people are being affected by it this week, and severely.

If you think you're infected then start by running a full scan with Malwarebytes

Is your folder full of programs needing ownership all from torrents? There is no Win7 bug but there are plenty of pirate barnacles.

Do the Clean Reinstall following the steps closely and sticking with the tools and methods given if you want to get and keep a perfect install.

    No torrents involved.

I have a BelArc Advisor Security Benchmark Score of 0.63 out of 10. That just makes my head spin after getting a gigabyte of security updates in a couple hours.

I would ignore those scores and just make sure you have all of your Important and Optional Updates installed.
