Windows 7 failed to install SP1, error code 800736CC
Hi,
I recently reinstalled windows 7 on my computer after experiencing many crashes and update failures. Windows update succesfully installed all the other updates except for service pack 1. I've tried Microsoft fixit tool and Windows system update readiness tool. I've also tried clean boot, disk check, SFC... all without success.
I really don't wish to reinstall windows again for the 100th time
Appreciate your help.
If you receive Windows Update error 800736CC while installing updates, it's usually because the update content isn't valid and could be corrupted. This most likely is the result of a disk error. To resolve the problem, follow the steps in the sections below: check for disk errors first, and then remove the temporary update files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer. To remove the temporary files, stop the Windows Update service, delete the temporary update files, restart the Windows Update service, and then try to check for Windows updates again.

thank you both for the quick reply, I'll try it and reply back.
Greg: I think I understand what you're saying.
- if someone has to do a re-install, that they should begin with the Windows 7 SP1 ISO. you've told bensabat where to get the download, but I'm not sure new folks know about all of the excellent tutorials here on sevenforums.

Thanks, Bart. I usually check their specs and if it doesn't have an OEM PC listed or the issue doesn't pertain to issues stressed in that tutorial then I don't always post it since they may wonder why we assume they have Factory OEM. However you are absolutely correct in that those steps can benefit any reinstall whether OEM or retail.
