compatibility app

Hello
The following were not compatible with my Win 7 prior to the Win 8 upgrade;
1-dvds -does this mean I cannot play commercial videos but can still play my home dvds? How do I get get a codec for commercial dvds?

2-secure boot -I do not know how to rectify this -is this Bios?

3-screen resolution and snap I assume does not apply to my desktop
4-tv -I do not want
5-MSE -I can use Win 8 Defender in its place, I think
6-Avisynth2.5 - I can reinstall but do not know where to get it

If you could briefly point me in the right direction I would be very grateful; especially the first two.
I wonder if these can be done after upgrading?

1) you need to install a app like WinDVD, PowerDVD, Nero show.
2) is for uEFI BIOS.
3) Update drivers, IF ANY
5) MSE & Win 8 Defender are the same.

Thank you. Could you please tell me how to address uEFI BIOS. I don't know what to do or is this done during the upgrade process?.

uEFI BIOS are only on New PC's.

5) Right. You get a form of WIndows Defender with the Win 8 install.

Neither of the Dells are cpmpatible with the secure boot feature. As I explained to another person, I had planned ahead, based upon history, and got two nice Dells with i5 , m6 Gb etc but with this new feture I cannot upgrade. I'll be looking at Chrome Notebooks and get as far away from M$ as I can.
Disabled I have tv and had pc now off to tv.
As I told the other friend, never to old to sulk.

The secure boot feature isn't required for a Windows 8 upgrade. I believe that it isn't even available unless you do a UEFI installation, which also is not required. (A UEFI install may also be a bad idea. I just did one, and it may be quite a while before I know whether it was the right thing to do. The traditional non-UEFI installation that I had previously was simple.)

If you wish to avoid Microsoft products, feel free. Doing it out of impatience or ignorance is a little sad, though.
