    ssd install problems

Hi, new and hope you can help

Just purchased a crucial 256gb ssd V4, realised the boot up has to be ahci rather than IDE for full speed.

Cloned the ssd, ut didnt boot due to AHCI. ok, so install win 7 as fresh on ssd, and tried loading software, its painfully slow.
So am i best off reloading win7 on ssd, then using my current hdd with all my apps, itunes etc as normal. do i have to configure anything or is it plug and play, or what am i doing wrong. The bios needs updating, but from manufacturer website it says for new cpu support.
Ideally i was going to put all on ssd, thinking it would help, but after reading a few threads its best to keep old hdd.
Hope that makes sense, im rushing as off out now
Any replies would be gratefully received

this is what i have done so far.
1 cloned(full contents) the ssd using the provided software off crucial, works but not a faster than normal boot up. Because the ssd is running at IDE mode, should be AHCI.
2 Reloaded windows onto the ssd under AHCI. Whilst updating the windows update, its very slow. Though i was also loading other software.
3 I have acronis true image tried loading the app files only to ssd but that failed.
4 What i want to do now is reload the SSD with win 7, then shut down the pc and reinstall the HDD into another SATA port, or will ineed to configure. This im hoping will let me use my pc as im use to. Is that right??
Ive spent 2 days trying to get this right so getting fed up big time. Any input welcome
Apologies for the rushing of the post

What you should do is install the OS and all apps to the SSD.

Don't put any apps on the HDD unless the SSD is too small.

Where did you get the install disc?

I'd try a clean install again, with all hard drives other than the SSD disconnected.

Clones can work, but clean install is preferable and less prone to trouble.

Which install disc? My original windows disc?? The only other disc i have is a clone software disc provided by crucial.
I dont mind doin a clean install of everything but i have photos(phots are filed using lightroom) and itunes on myc hdd, I have lost aload of photos in the past so dont want to lose anymore.
I have acronis true image but back up stuff but not confident with that.

The Windows 7 install disc. You need one if you want to do a clean install of Windows 7.

    Disconnect and ignore your HDD.

Clean install 7 to the SSD.

Then reconnect the HDD. Any data on the HDD will still be there.

You can download a win7 .iso from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

Burn this to CD and install with it. Then activate it with the Key on your COA sticker (it is somewhere on your box). Make sure all other disks are disconnected when you install on tha SSD. Before you install, I highly recommend you do a Secure Erase on the SSD: How to securely erase an SSD drive | How To - CNET

I assume you have both data and apps on the HDD.

If you do a clean install to the SSD, you will need to reinstall the apps. I'd reinstall them to the SSD.

The data now on the HDD can be left on the HDD. You could put it on the SSD, but it probably isn't big enough. After you install Windows to the SSD, you can reconnect the HDD, make a data partition on it, move your data from C on the HDD to the new data partition. Then delete the old C partition on the HDD.

Most of us with SSDs also have an HDD, but the HDD only has data. Probably no data on the SSD.
