HD crash, no recovery disc, have product code. Do I have to have disc

New HD on the way but DVD drive on functioning computer not working. Will I have to download Win7 to disc or flash drive to install on new HD? I do have the product code.

Thanks for your quick reply DocBrown. The dead HD is from an HP notebook (3 weeks post-warranty expiration) My functioning PC has a non-functioning DVD/CD drive. Can I just have a friend download win7 onto a DVD and install on new HD from there?

All you need is the product key--the 25 character sequence from the sticker on the PC.

You can use a borrowed Windows 7 DVD if it is the same version as the product key version.

Or your friend could download an iso matching your product key.

Yes, have your friend download the proper version .iso for your Key Code. Burn to a DVD disc with ImgBurn (Freeware) at 4x speed with verify ON.
