Windows 7: Newly built computer, black screen Invalid system disk.

I didn't have any problems installing windows. I found out the first problem was it required a power supply (the converter). (Guess sometimes reading instructions will be a good idea). I found a pin on the CSEL position then moved it to the master one. Still nothing. I'm about to see if I move it to slave if it will work. I have a Samsung 1 TB hard drive on its own ribbon. The motherboard has 6 sata drives.

If you plugged the converter in at the end of the ribbon cable the CS or master position should have worked. Generally you would use the CS setting since that is the universal which suggests the converter may be the problem if there is no fault with the drive itself.

Testing it with a different ide cable as well as checking to see if the cable itself is plugged in all the way on the board end would another thing to look into. You might have a bad cable if no other drive has been using it.
