    Cannot install 7 from XP

I am currently running XP 32 bit. My computer is fully capable of running 64 bit. When I built the machine I planned ahead for the change over to 7 64 bit. However, I am running in to a problem when trying to do a clean install of 7 64 bit. After the BOIS reads the CD/DVD drive first, i never get the install screen that I am accustomed to seeing when installing any other Windows OS. I get the black boot manager screen that gives me the option of loading Windows or going to the memory diagnostic area. If I hit enter for the Windows option, it appears that 7 is starting up like it normally would if it were installed on the machine. It loads to the 7 desktop background and then that is it. No start bar or ability to do Ctrl-Alt-Del. I have never seen an install disc do this before. For the record it is not an OEM purchased disc, but a disc I burned after downloading the ISO image file after purchasing a license key.

First, try downloading it again, and burning to the disc at a slower speed.
Download here Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life make sure you get the version that your product key is. Then, burn at the slowest speed using ImgBurn.
Also, could you fill in your system specs?
Here's how: System Info - See Your System Specs
Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built.

Log in to Seven Forums and you will be able to transfer the info directly to the specs page in your profile from within the System Info app.
After doing this your specs will be available in each of your posts. Click on mine in the lower left to see how it should look.

I will post that info this evening when I am home from work. It is a self built system.

    Hi Brandon Miller,
Most likely you have an upgrade disc which needs to be run from a version of windows or a corrupted ISO file. Do you still have the downloaded ISO file? Do you have another machine to create another DVD or 4GB USB drive to create a bootable install from flash drive?
Download a new ISO from here
Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

    Create a bootable USB
    Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

Try this software and use the verify function to burn the ISO file to DVD

I am in the process of downloading the file from Digital River again which is where the first download came from. I burned the ISO file to a DVD using Roxio.

Try burning it using ImgBurn, and burn at the slowest possible speed.

You do not need to run an Upgrade version from the qualifying OS. You can Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version, even if the qualifer isn't on the HD - just leave the key blank during install and do the quick workaround given in Option 3.

The issue as suggested is almost always caused by a bad installer. Burning with Roxio crapware would do that. Use ImgBurn at 4x speed or Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.

Then follow these steps to Clean Install Windows 7 deleting all partitions during install to create new as you wish, format and click Next.

I have about determined another issue may be a hard drive going bad.

The new disk gave me the same issue. I have not tried a disk burned with ImgBurn yet.

What will the Crystal Disk software do?
