Windows 7 and AHCI - Question

    Hi,

I have re-installed my system from scratch using Win7 Ultimate and a Samsung SSD 830 128GB.
First, I set to AHCI in BIOS-setup, then installed from DVD.
Everything seems to work fine and speedy, during Boot-up I get the message: AHCI BIOS installed.

Now I came across an article concerning AHCI-mode:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
    Start should show 0 (zero)
    That is ok

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV
    Start should show 0 (zero)
    My setting shows 3

    Question:
Should I correct the last setting from 3 to 0 or leave it as is?

No because you haven't loaded the Intel IAstor (Intel Rapid Storage) drivers and you are using the Microsoft versions. which is perfectly fine.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV is microsoft version
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Iastor is intel version

Because IastorV is not 0 in your case, I assume Iastor is 0(?) So you're using Iastor ... so the intel version
    check device manager... IDE ATA/API-controlers

    Thank you for additional info.

    There is no
    ...\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStor
    entry in my registry.

    Only the
    ...\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorV

Device Manager seems to be ok,
at least there are no yellow markings.

That is because you have a AHCI driver installed, the MS version. You can install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers if you like.

Would RST have any noticeable effect over MS-driver?
Heard pros and cons on RST.
MS-driver was generally rated as very stable.

Are you having any problems with your system the way it is right now? If not then why are you trying to fix something that is not broken.

Yes the MS drivers are fine. But so are the Intel drivers.

    Pick one.

    You are right, edwar
No problems here and I will not tamper with the running system.

Start question was about recommended settings for msahci and iastorv
    which I did not understand.

So, thank you all for putting me straight :)
