    Installing Windows 7 64bit

I have Acer Aspire 6920G, and when I bought it it was Windows Vista Home Premium OEM 32bit pre-installed on it. I want to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on it and I know that I need to do clean install, but what I'm wondering about is what should I do with hidden OEM partition? Should I delete it before installing Windows 7 or...?

It sounds like a rescue partition installed by the machines manufacturer, I would leave it intact in case you decide Windows 7 is not for you.

it all depends on your warranty for the machine. I deal with Dell machines and they put in a hidden partition, what it is used for is if the machine has a problem they have revert it back to the saved image from that bit of HDD. If you are confident enough about computers then go a head and delete it, but Acer might not accepted it if part of it dies and needs repairing.

Yes its recovery partition installed from Acer if something goes wrong so it would be possible to restore Laptop to manufacturer settings. If I leave it on there its not going to interfere in some way with Windows 7?

No. Data on other partitions is independent from the Windows 7 partition.

If you make some recovery/restore DVDs, you can delete the partition if you want. That's what I did on my laptop. I have never even used the recovery discs. They are pretty much useless except if you want to return the laptop to the store or manufacturer at factory state.

This shouldn't make any difference you can leave the partition and install 7 onto a different one and it won't make any difference. I would recommend that you keep the recovery partition.

    Hi,

Yes it is a recovery partition, I have the same thing on my Acer 8930G. In fact I had 2 hidden partition 11gig and 4gig. You can keep it if you want or get rid of it. However if like me you plan to dual boot with perhaps a linux distro then it will prove a pain in the butt.

I ended up getting rid of mine. But before I did that I created a recovery disks. And now I guard them with my life...

You should have an option in the windows vista that came with your acer to create this DVDs.

I think that they will actually recreate the hidden partitions if you choose to restore the system to the ACER factory default.

Thanks for answers guys. I made recovery DVDs the first day when I got Laptop I chose to leave hidden parttion on HDD if some day for some reason I will need to restore back to factory settings. I've red in Acer forums that if you delete OEM partition, recovery DVDs are not bringing it back. Person wanted to get it back and the only choise he had was to send Laptop to Acer so they can preload OEM partition on it. So, yesterday I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Acer Aspire 6920G
99% of hardware was function right out of the box.

I'd rather have the discs stored in a safe place, than the recovery partition. You never sotre your backups on the same drive as your data being backed up, and the same goes for recovery. If you HDD dies, so goes your recovery options. My wife's new HP laptop came with this partition as well. We made the discs, put them in our safe, and wiped out the drive to install Windows 7.

Maybe you misunderstood me :). I'm not talking about backup of your files etc. What I was asking in first post was about OEM hidden partition, and thats quiet different.I have Recovery DVDs. Hidden OEM partition its nothing that you create by yourself(you can't do any backups on it), that is something that manufacturer of your Laptop does and the purpose of it is to restore machine to factory default.
